IPStor is fully compatible with third-party backup software (such as IBM’s TSM, Veritas’ NetBackup, CA’s ARCserve, NetVault’s BakBone, Knox Software’s Arkeia, etc.), and allows for performance of LAN-free or serverless backup from the application server. However, the traditional server-based model still requires the installation of a backup engine or backup agent on individual application servers. This can add greatly to costs, as software licenses are required on each server.

IPStor’s network storage model enables consolidation of storage resources as well as management tasks such as backup. Its ‘zero-impact backup accelerator’ allows the storage manager to install and run certified 3rd party backup software on the IPStor server to perform high speed backup of virtual disks offered to the application servers, thereby freeing the application servers from involvement in the backup/restore operation.
