| Instead
of being boxed in by proprietary protocols and devices,
IPStor software allows you to create a high performance
SAN over Fibre Channel and /or IP using industry-standard
components - standard connectivity, devices, interfaces,
platforms - and offers the ability to seamlessly
create and provision NAS resources without any additional
devices or connections. IPStor delivers enterprise-class
storage services -- the killer-apps of the 21st century
-- to new or existing SANs.
IPStor's
vital storage services -- virtualization, active-active
failover, capacity-on-demand, timemark, remote replication,
mirroring, application-aware snapshot, zero-impact backup/restore
enablers and more -- deliver mission-critical storage
management, high availability, and disaster recovery services
that ensure business continuity.
By incorporating
today's well-established data transport protocols (Fibre
Channel, SCSI, and IP) as well as emerging standards such
as iSCSI and InfiniBand, IPStor's future-proof, highly-scalable
architecture allows enterprises to stay on top of their
ever-evolving data storage requirements.
IPStor
enables organizations to:
- Virtualize
and consolidate heterogeneous storage environments
- Utilize
storage efficiently
- Expand
capacity smoothly
- Access
data securely from anywhere in the world
- Enable
high-speed zero-impact backup
- Create
a comprehensive disaster recovery plan with remote data
synchronization
- Significantly
reduce total storage management costs
IPStor
protects business investments in people and know-how by
using existing storage technologies and allows companies
to enjoy the best of both Network Attached Storage (NAS)
and Storage Area Networks (SANs) for maximum return on
investment (ROI). |

| From
this diagram, you can see the IPStor Server is at
the heart of the storage network. The IPStor Server is a
dedicated network storage server. It is attached to the
physical SCSI and/or Fibre Channel storage devices on one
or more SCSI or Fibre Channel busses. The Server receives
I/O requests from the IPStor SAN Clients (application servers)
over Fibre Channel or IP and carries out the operations
on the target device. To support mission-critical computing,
the IPStor Server supports active-active fail-over configuration
for fault tolerance. Mirroring, replication, and snapshot
policies can be attached to the storage resources to facilitate
fast disaster recovery.
IPStor SAN Clients
are the actual application servers (file, database, and
Internet servers). FalconStor calls them IPStor SAN Clients
because they utilize the storage resources via the IPStor
Server.
There are two types of
SAN Clients, SAN/IP and Fibre Channel. You can have both
on your storage network.
These SAN Clients access
their storage resources via software-emulated virtual
adapters (for SAN/IP) or HBAs (for Fibre Channel). The
virtualized storage resources appear as locally attached
devices to the SAN Clients’ operating systems (Windows
NT, Windows 2000, Linux, Solaris, etc.) even though the
SCSI devices are actually located at the IPStor Server.
A single Java management
console provides reporting, device discovery, security,
SAN/NAS resource mapping, event notification, and end-to-end
diagnostics for enterprise storage managed by IPStor. |
